Table Tower

I decided to jazz this corner of our living room with a table stack. It shows off some of my crochet bowl range.
The latest addition to the range is the large punch bowl on the floor.  I used a coarse string and it makes a good home for my paper lily collection!
Just took delivery of some more gorgeous crochet work today.  The lovely talented Collette has joined the Freshly Found team and is producing some great work.  Will show you soon!

Cushion Covers and Inners

I am in the process of giving the cushions in my home a revamp. I am aiming for new covers and feather inners for all of them.
I made the latest pair from some plain, textured 'found' fabric.  The fibres looked natural to me, but to be sure I did a  burn test.
I took some of the fibres and held them over a flame.  I am quite sure the fabric is not artificial, and think it is probably silk or cotton or a blend of the 2.
Whatever they are - it is working well with the lovely duck feather inners.

Picnic in The Botanical Gardens

Today we decided to have a family picnic in the Durban Botanical Gardens in honour of my youngest daughter's recent birthday!
We had some delicious Paninis with chicken, mayo, proscuitto, pesto, etc as well as chocolate mousse to finish it all off. A lovely change to my normal Sunday cooking.
The gardens were cheerful and warm.  I was fascinated by the bark of this tree near our picnic place.
My daughters always give presents beautifully - and today was no exception - I just love how my eldest daughter transformed this plain brown packet so prettily for her sister.
What a lovely day! We must do it again.

Postcard Swap

Jesse from JezzePrints organised a postcard swap.  I am taking part and am going to get one of her beautiful prints!  I can't wait!
She is going to get a linen one, created with an offcut from a project earlier this week.
It's in my bag, ready to be posted today!

What's Up Again!

I have been working in collaboration with the Shaw Sisters, providing folded books for a number of different products.  Here's a peek at one:
They are on show right now at SARCDA on the Koop Design stand.
The news is that they are doing well!

What's Up

I 've enjoyed having a week of getting things done here.
Yesterday I made this butterfly for a baby shower [everyone has to bring a handmade butterfly for a mobile] by cutting up a stained tray cloth.
What a pleasure to bring new life to this simple embroidery.
The vintage tapestry is a gift.  Thanks Anna.  Still waiting to see what it becomes!

At Last!

Today for the first time for ages, I didn't have hectically urgent deadlines or tasks nipping at my heels. What a pleasure it was to spend some time on my home.
I made these cushions up from thrifted linen dishtowels.  I love the colours and the happy patterns.
I also washed the white linen loose covers for my sofas - and made some alterations too - involving unpicking, inserting a strip, restitching piping and pleats in both of them.
So by late this afternoon, as the light was fading, I was hugely satisfied with the outcome - just have to order another feather inner for the koala cover!
Are they significant?- yes!- We have visited Australia and have friends and close family there, so the Koala Print will remind us of that.  The Irish one - well I plan to visit Ireland one day!

Wonderful Wedding

Last weekend we attended the wedding of our friends Skye and Ross.
It was a lovely lovely day.  The whole day just dripped with the creative talent of Skye and her family. These gorgeous floral hearts decorated the Tiffany chairs in the garden where the wedding took place.
The tables were decorated with grey dyed crochet vintage table cloths, white enamel dishes, these PBJs, and pink proteas.  I loved the brides - bouquet - a single King Protea and lace!
The bridesmaids all had different dresses, in the same colour.  Tia Coghill of Tink Photography was the amazing photographer and you can see more of her pics of the wedding over here.
Truly an inspirational day! It was as privilege to be a part of it.

This is what I love about crochet - the incredible texture.  Makes you want to reach out and rub your fingers in it.

I am busy with a crochet project - using string.
I am happy with the way it's turning out.
And oh - I am enjoying the lastest Lonnymag!!!

To Market, to Market...

Freshly Found will be at the i♥market tomorrow again.
Freshly finished is this found vintage vase.  It's covered in crocheted string.  I love it's linen/ ceramic feel!
On the brighter side is this retro red vintage pyrex mixing bowl.  The Cartwheel crochet pattern allows plenty of space for  the red to shine through.
I am going to be at a wedding tomorrow, but please go and say hi to Christy and Callie who will be manning the stall for me!
Do remember that the market is back home again at the DLI hall

Production Line!

I know you've seen a lot of my Bibliogami Books on my blog. I've been seeing even more of them.  In fact - Freshly Found has taken a small, but significant little step in the past few weeks. My car has been told to stay outside the garage, and we have set up a book folding production line in there.
I remember a few years ago, when I bought 3 paperback novels from the hospice shop - to try out this book folding thing.  I thought they would make an interesting table centrepiece for a couple of months and then I would throw them out.  I didn't think people might buy them!
Well the designs of the folds have developed and we are doing some interesting things with them now.  Last week we got a box-ful of them off to the UK and we're working in collaboration with a Design Company in Durban too.
I enjoy the colours and lines of the books.  The creams, off-whites, beiges and ochres!
And I am appreciating the help of Sandile,  the talented Freshly Found beader, who is honing his Bibliogami skills now too!
