Paper Apples – handcrafted from books

We are keen to explore new directions in our paper work for clients, and were delighted to make up some paper apple prototypes from recycled books.  The apple shape, is a bit like the heart shape – familiar, simple and pleasing with soft curves. We were very happy with the outcome.
Did you know that the apple is actually part of the rose [rosaceae] family?  We’ve made plenty of paper roses, so I guess paper apples are a natural progression!

Paper Apples

In searching for some interesting apple facts, I came across this delightful piece of info on Wildflowers-and-weeds.com:
“In the early 1900s, botanists reclassified the former Spirea, Plum and Apple families as subfamilies within the Rose family.  I response Robert Frost poemed,
“The rose is a rose and was always a rose.
But the theory now goes that the apple’s a rose,
and the pear is, and so’s the plum, I suppose.
The dear [Lord] only knows what will next prove a rose.
You, of course, are a rose – but were always a rose.”
I wonder what his response would be to a book paper version?
