Tapestree!

This is the prototype for a series of bags I am making using some found tapestries. Usually I buy some dusty framed ones, but this one was stitched by my clever mom before she was married and was never framed! So here after half a century - it is having it's debut!
I made the bag from a sturdy cotton or light canvas. Inside it is lined with a South African 'Granny Print' from Berg River Textiles. I have included 3 generous pockets on the inside - and a little bit like my Glove Cushions - I am adding a stitched comment to each. This one is - Tapestree!

Oh that is beautiful. Thank goodness your amazing mom never threw that out over the years!
I like the idea that you showed this the day after we celebrated Heritage Day here in SA.

Hi Denise,

Sandy von Albach asked me to make contact with you in connnection with our Vanilla Rose handbags.....

I see we both like visiting similar blogs! You can visit my blog at http://lovevanillacupcakes.blogspot.com/.

I may have some pics of my knitted bags somehere if you're interested in seeing them - unfortunately we aren't pushing them at all because of time constraints.
Your blog is lovely.

Denise! this is the best idea that I've seen in a long while!
My mom did lots of tapestries and I want to keep them, because it was her labour and part of her, but I don't really like them on the wall, so this is a brilliant idea!

I keep checking your etsy to see if the bag is for sale... If you are selling it, please can I "reserve" it? Thanks!

Denise,

I have been lurking on your blog for some time. I love your ideas. Using the needlepoint for decor on the bag is wonderful. I was at a consignment store yesterday. There were many old needlepoints. What a great use for them. Your is ultra special as it is something your mom did!

I took receipt of the bag yesterday, and it is SO beautiful. The picture is so peaceful and the bag is really well-made and beautifully stitched. The buttons add an extra aspect, as does the pretty fabric inside.
It is chic and creative and I will be a proud bagger!!

I am having SUCH fun with my tapestree bag. Where I might previously have carried something or shoved small things into my handbag, my Tapestree now goes with me everywhere ... and I proudly tell of its origins....
