Christmas Time

This year I decided to wrap all the gifts in posters, with the coloured part facing inwards and the white on the outside. I used doilies for gift tags. My daughter decided this was too plain and has beautifully doodled the doilies in red.
A cutout from a vintage record cover has become a wreath on our living room door

The Gammon is cooked and I am about to start the duck and the veggies, etc. We celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve, so will be opening our pressies tonight too!
Happy Christmas!!!

Bracelets and Cuffs

A few years ago, a friend gave me 6 beautiful coconut buttons.  I decided then that I was going to make a bracelet from them. I finally finished making it yesterday.  [I tried photographing it on me, but my hands look too wrinkly!]

I stitched the buttons to a crocheted brown base band. The bracelet feels so comfy - chunky and yet delicate. Thanks E. I finally put them to good use.

The crocheted cuffs have done so well on my stand at the market.  I have been experimenting with different colours and patterns. I usually use string, but have made some for myself from Vinni hand dyed cotton.
I've tried a new pattern too.
I love the daisy type stitch which originated from a vintage Hamlyn book on  crochet for the family. The original pattern was 1 of three for hairbands and watch straps!

I love reinterpreting these old patterns into a current application, and chuckling at others that are too scary to reappear!

100% Silkiness!

I have a huge vintage tie collection, because I have a soft spot for all the  beautiful paisley and other miniature prints they are made of.
I could not resist this bright green 100% silk one I found the other day and transformed it into a necklace and flower pin for myself! Yay!
Perhaps I will wear it to the final i♥market of the year tomorrow?!  See some of you there!

Rescued and Recommissioned!

Hot off the press - this carry bag made from a found piece of embroidered linen!
It will be at the market on Saturday and in the online shop soon...
...if I don't claim it for myself!

The Shaw Sisters

I was so pleased to get a copy of the November 2010 edition of Business Day's Wanted Mag.  It featured an article on South African design products, including the folded book decorations from the Shaw Sisters!
Visit their website to see these ornaments made for them by Freshly Found and many other innovative local designs they have in their collection!

Christmas Emporium

Bonnie and Clyde, purveyors of fine resurrected and recycled clothes, are having a Christmas Emporium tomorrow.
We popped into the store the other day and really enjoyed the vibe.

Freshly Found products will be there for the day! Pop in if you are in and around Durban!

Freshly Die-Cut!

I am so excited.  Yesterday afternoon the die for my Freshly Found Logo arrived - along with a whole flock of labels made from recycled posters!
So the labels are white on the one side, and randomly coloured on the other.

Look out for them on Freshly Found products!

Packing Paper Blooms

There's something so satisfying about seeing all your hard work packed and ready to go.
I am working on a big order at the moment, but this is one from a few days ago - a wedding delivery.
I'll be showing you the real life wedding pics some time soon.

Eat Together..

Friday Night's Vega Durban Show Case evening was amazing. I am so delighted to see the incredible talent that comes from our city!
I was happy to see my daughter's Eat Together Art Work on display.
She asked friends, family [including me!] and fellow students to decorate wooden cutlery with a red pattern.  The work portrayed passion, community and the different individuals that form part of it!
PS - Christy's group were nominated as finalists in the Vuka Awards.  They won 2 awards on Tuesday night. How exciting!  Read more about it here

Crochet Hair Bands, etc!

Working very hard for the i♥market tomorrow.
These crochet hairbands are new on the stall, and a few other goodies too.
Looking forward to seeing lots of you there.  Be there tomorrow if you are in Durbs!
