Signs of the Times

Many of the Street Names in Durban are being changed - It is all part of the the new South Africa. So in our travels last week we came across many signs like this one. The old name crossed out with the new name underneath. Some streets don't have the old name any more and it gets quite confusing! Change is not always easy! Read about Matt's perspective here. See a full list of the name changes here!

Hi there Denise - my you have had a busy time of it! Down here in Cape Town we haven't been that affected by name changes yet but boy it's hard to rearrange years of references in your head.comousni

Thanks Heather! I just did the same thing too. Those word verifications just seem to slip in. It is probably easier to pronounce than many of the new street names!

In Jozi they don't give the old names, so it is tough.
This week on my way to White River, I was heading for Witbank, and when I arrived at Emalahleni, I had to guess that this was it. Will have to buy a new map book soon, seeing as I am not yet a GPS person (-:
