The Tale of a Table

I have a reputation for loving the odd and quirky things in life - [some stuff that others refer to as junk!] Occasionally my friends offer me their 'throw-outs' and I am never insulted - I am usually delighted.
This side table in my Living Room is the happy ending to one of those stories! My friend Meg asked me if I would like her vintage table lamp stand. Her children refused to take it and she wondered if I would give it a happy home! When it arrived, my family told me they agreed with her family!!! I decided to remove the barley twist top section - with my son's help - and paint the table black! I have white everywhere, so a little black makes a good contrast!
I was left with a gaping hole where the lamp stem was. I found just the thing to cover it. While browsing at a charity store, I found a pack of vintage promotional coaster from Heunis Steel. My son drilled tiny holes into one, which was screwed over the gaping cavity.
I am still thinking about what I can do with the leftover barley twist stem!!I am off to Gauteng tomorrow to catch up on some friends, family and business. I'll be back next week!

Ooh I love it. Especially the coaster detail. Why not make a CANDLESTICK from the barley twist leftover, just add a circular wood base to it and drill a hole in the top.

Well, who'd have thunk???
I am so impressed.
Beautiful and clever!
Keep the stem somewhere as a negotiation tool - when you want to bring something else into the house, you can remind the family that you DID make a compromise.
Didn't know that black paint exists inyour vocab

I just had to come and have another look at how clever you and your son are.
I hope Meg doesn't want it back now ....

That's really a gift to be able to look at that table, and see the potential it has. It looks great now!

Have a great time in Gauteng. I hope you let us know if you stumble upon any great cafes or interesting spots-- Bordeaux and I will be heading there soon. -X

holy cow... GREAT JOB! I wish I had gotten the crafty gene along with the "designer's eye" and "champagne taste, beer budget" ones. Those ones are a pain in my ass.
