The thoroughly cleaned and sealed old scooter tyres form the frame for the wicker work created by artisans in Vietnam. What an inspiring project! 
I enjoy collecting vintage design books. I love to see how trends and ideas repeat themselves over the years - often returning, but in a different form.
So I had to chuckle - and be inspired - when I was paging through High-Tech - an Industrial Style and Source book, published in the USA in 1978. I found this design by architect Paul Rudolph - Car and Tractor tires - upholstered in Elastic!

I just LOVE these white tyres! They somehow just look soooo SOFT - as though one can just fall into one and have a little cat-nap...
I have to say I think the wicker tyres would look great on a deck & I bet they're all springy (a throw back to my youth I suspect)
Trends repeat themselves indeed, in decoration and fashion, but I love to see the little added details to make them up to date. Those wicker tyres are intriguing!
Denise, you are amazing to make those connections. I had naively never realised that these trends also repeat - I thought it was only fashion that goes through cycles.
