Retro Boxes!

We have really felt the full tropical extent of our city over the last few days.  The weather has been unbearably hot and humid.  Fortunately this evening has brought a refreshing cool breeze!
I couldn't bear to work with fabric in this heat, so I have spent a number of hours folding these origami boxes.

I am building up a few themed collections, which will soon be for sale. These are some of the Typographical set.
I have had a set of these boxes in my lounge for a few months.  I find them a very interactive decorative set.  I love the interest that they create. Guests pick them up, turn them around, ask what they are and then their faces light up when they realise they are made from LP covers and they take a trip down memory lane or into the past, depending on their age.
Working this closely with these boxes is so pleasing. I am able to appreciate each individual design as I go. I am not always sure how they will turn out until they are folded.  The front of the Cover forms the top lid of the box and the back of the cover forms the base.

The look great. I love the idea of having them displayed like that!

(I'm also not handling the heat here in Jozi; also humid {in relative terms of course}.)

Finally I get to feast my eyes on your lovely blog again. I haven't got back to mine yet but you are certainly an inspiring place to start. These are absolutely beautiful.

Very cool looking. I know what you mean about the fabric. I am busiest sewing polar fleece in the dead of summer. Fortunately the dead of summer in NOva Scotia is really not that hot.

These are great, and they look so good on those shelves - the colours and contrasting 'patterns' of each box really *pop* against the white. Lovely!

I make similar boxes but on a much smaller scale, using Christmas and birthday cards!

I had to laugh when I saw your new tp inner link. I saw this idea in a Real Simple magazine about three or four years ago, and showed it to L'Usband who was very taken with it - he uses tp inners for all his cables - computers, speakers, camera, cellphone rechargers, you name it! In fact, I think that might be when and how the collection started!

Again, these are lovely Denise! I am still enjoying mine too, it keeps some of my earrings safe... pretty and functional - the best combo. Hope the heat breaks soon for you :)
