I bought the 3 decorative ones from my Local Charity Shop, where I happened to find 3 mini vintage trophies with pigeons on top. I removed all the plastic paraphernalia from the bird cages and cleaned and painted them. I dismantled the trophies, and attached the pigeons to the cages. I've used them to house all sorts of displays.
I have a large fireplace, with wood storage bins on either side. They used to look like this...
But now they look like this... Soon I'll find something else creative to do with them! Actually I wouldn't mind filling them with some beautiful birds from the print by Carolyn Gavin of Designer Blog . Her range of stationery is 100% recycled and it's delicious!

Besides the practical use of the cage, I love that the pigeon is outside the cage.
It's creative.
It has a sense of freedom.
Thanks for the insight! What a good point.
Another friend asked me if I had locked all the wood up in the cage because winter is over now and we wont need to make any fires!
I enjoy all these perspectives!
How creative! I do like it stacked before though too, it makes me think of one of my favorite blogs: http://2or3things.blogspot.com/
Look at the top right corner.
fresh, we've had too many fires in november in hillcrest to EVER lock our wood away! keep it accessible, i think we still have a cold snap coming...
gorgeous cages, gorgeous.
where'd you find a charity shop with sari's? lucky duck. i always go to grey / victoria streets. (sorry, i just can't get with those new names)
The cage with the wood is beautiful!
Thanks for you comment on my blog - you're right, paint drying is an exciting thing, but in my house it's such a slooowww transformation. Little bits whenever I have time.
what an amazing idea to begin with, but on top of that you realized it so perfectly! from now on when i go thrifting i am going to have to start looking at things through more creative eyes. you have no idea how much i love pigeons.
