This side table in my Living Room is the happy ending to one of those stories!
My friend Meg asked me if I would like her vintage table lamp stand. Her children refused to take it and she wondered if I would give it a happy home! When it arrived, my family told me they agreed with her family!!!
I decided to remove the barley twist top section - with my son's help - and paint the table black! I have white everywhere, so a little black makes a good contrast!I was left with a gaping hole where the lamp stem was. I found just the thing to cover it. While browsing at a charity store, I found a pack of vintage promotional coaster from Heunis Steel. My son drilled tiny holes into one, which was screwed over the gaping cavity.
I am still thinking about what I can do with the leftover barley twist stem!!
I am off to Gauteng tomorrow to catch up on some friends, family and business. I'll be back next week!

Ooh I love it. Especially the coaster detail. Why not make a CANDLESTICK from the barley twist leftover, just add a circular wood base to it and drill a hole in the top.

Keep the stem somewhere as a negotiation tool - when you want to bring something else into the house, you can remind the family that you DID make a compromise.

holy cow... GREAT JOB! I wish I had gotten the crafty gene along with the "designer's eye" and "champagne taste, beer budget" ones. Those ones are a pain in my ass.
